According to the Chairman of the Rivers State branch of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Furo Green, a medical doctor by name, Dr. Livy Ijamala has died from Lassa Fever which brings the total number of deaths from Lassa Fever in Rivers State to 3.
Dr. Ijamala died in the early hours of Thursday morning and had contacts with patients infected with Lassa Fever.
Dr. Ijamala has been buried quickly in line with World Health Organisation's recommendations for contagious diseases.
According to Dr. Green a team from the World Health Organisation has visited the hospital which has been decontaminated while those who had contact with Ijamala have been placed on observation.
:"Last night, one of ou hardworking doctors in the department of obstetrics gynaecology, Dr. Livy Ijamala lost his life following infection with Lassa Fever. This is the price medical doctors and health personnel pay for offering health services to the public", Dr. Furo Green said.
We pray this is not another devastating outbreak in West Africa like Ebola
